In September 2010 I trained at 826 Valencia to learn how to bring a whimsical literacy center for youth to Sacramento. Since then, in partnership with the Sacramento Public Library and The Sacramento Poetry Center, we earned a grant from the Albert and Elaine Borchard Foundation to train an additional 30 stakeholders from the Greater Sacramento area in the hopes of opening our own organization for youth.
Today, we are forty plus stakeholders strong and growing. We are 916 Ink.
916 Ink is dedicated to promoting literacy by empowering youth in the Sacramento region to engage in literary arts.
916 Ink seeks to excite young people with language, particularly written language; to instill in children a sense of joy, wisdom, whimsy, and wonder with words; to celebrate syntax; and to support teachers, schools, and libraries in their efforts to share the benefits of reading and writing with all area youth.
This spring we will publish 70 young authors, ranging in ages 8-18. Want to inspire a kid to tell their story with me? To become involved email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit the website at www.916ink.org
